Pole Exercise

Lisa moving into the fang.

Pole Exercise is an exciting new way to work out – it’s a great way to get fit and have fun too!

Though similar to pole dancing, Pole Exercise focuses predominantly on the tricks that can be performed on a pole. Individual moves are taught on our 8 poles, from beginners to super advanced, allowing you to develop strength, tone and fitness.

Most people don’t even realize they’ve been working out until after the class! No longer is exercise a boring chore, Pole Exercise teaches both men and women how to utilise their own bodies, with no prior level of fitness or experience needed.

Each class is taught in a step-by-step process, allowing you to progress as slowly or as quickly as you need to.

Open to everyone

We teach people with a wide range of poling experience and new people start with us all the time, so you’ll be in good company even if you’ve never jumped on a pole before!

We’re a club at York University, but we’re happy to teach you whether or not you’re a student. Quite a few people who live locally attend classes on a regular basis. If you’d like more information or directions, please check the FAQ »

What are the lessons like?

Classes are split into four sections:

  • The Warm up
An essential part of any exercise, we make sure that the body is completely warmed up, and that limbs and muscles are stretched out.
  • Floor work
This section of the class involves stretching and strength building techniques. Members will learn how to link pole moves on the floor, whilst at the same time developing their strength and finding ways to move their body in a more flexible manner.
  • Pole Work
This section of the class works directly with the poles. Each week members will learn new pole tricks whilst practicing and working on past tricks. We teach each new trick by a step-by-step process, so no member feels any pressure to learn faster than they wish to.
  • Warm Down
The final part of the hour session, we make sure that the body is stretched out and relaxed at the close of the session.
